Since the cancellation of 27 licences for betting firms in Kenya, only a few have been renewed but still some of the top gambling firms like Sportpesa and Betin haven’t been renewed.

The top European leagues are kicking off their matches this weekend and many Kenyans especially the youth(who gamble the most according to statistics carried out) will be thirsty to bet on their favorite or rather bet to make money. And one of the most used betting firms like Sportpesa and Betin being closed, many will be very angry with the government choosing to make such a step despite the fact that not many jobs have been created by them to make the youth have a source of income.

We cannot ignore the fact that gambling is an addictive activity which is very hard to quit(than alcohol) because the difference is you make instant money……. or lose it without a sweat in just a matter of hours. Most of those who gamble go to an extent of borrowing loans just to gamble upto the last cent. No wonder most of the youth are listed by the CRB of kenya.

Please let me know if cancelling licenses of gambling firms in Kenya is a good step towards the right direction.

Since the Total Afcon Championships began in Cairo on June, Egypt the home side were considered the favourites to lift the trophy once again. Egypt has won the trophy 7 times and since they had a home ground advantage everyone expected them to lift the trophy for the 8th time.

Being the underdogs in the game,Bafana bafana scored a late second half goal to earn the Egyptians their first loss of the tournament and therefore knocking them out.

This means that the most favourite team to win remaining is Senegal. Top ranked in Africa, they have only suffered a single defeat in the group qualifications but finished second behind Algeria who topped the group.

Argentine team probalbly has the best squad in the world that includes world class players and one of the best players in the world Lionel Messi who play their trade in the best clubs in the world in Europe.

But when it comes to international matters it never translates how a team with the best players can’t perform to their expectations. In the ongoing Copa America 2019 edition that is happening in Brazil argentina have again dissapointed badly. After narrowly qualifying to the knockout stages they were placed with the home team Brazil. The end result was unwanting as Argentina once again lost to Brazil with a scoreline of 2-0.

This means that they will once again meet Chile who lost in the other Semifinal against Peru on penalties, in the third placed playoff match. Chile have reached the finals 2 in the past 3 years and in both occasions they met with Argentina. Both games saw Argentina ending up as the runners up.

Last year we saw a change in the methodology of giving the award to forwards (with most goals and titles) only with the croatian Luka modric scooping the award for the first time beating the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

This year we may witness another suprise as Liverpool and dutch defender Virgil van dyke with the odds to win it.

At the moment only Lionel Messi and the duo of Liverpool attackers Mo salah and Sadio Mane proof to be the best contenders for the award.

The defender won the Uefa champions league title,won tge PFA player of the season and helped his national team reach the Uefa nations league final before loosing to the eventual winners Portugal. Up to then no player had dribbled past him hence making him one or the best defender in Europe last season.

Its without a doubt that Juventus or as some like to call them “The old Lady” is the best club in Italy and among the best in Europe and the World as a whole. They have won the Serie A title for an 8th Consecutive time proving their dominance in the league. They have come close to winning the champions league twice in recent times reaching the final in 2015 and 2017 before being knocked out by the eventual champions Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

The upcoming 2019-2020 Seaon will be a one to watch out for with the club making some big name signings. Most of the being free transfers. Last season saw the arrival of one of the best players in the World Cristiano Ronaldo. This upcoming season sees the arrival of :Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer from Arsenal, Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer from Psg(Paris saint-Germain), Legend goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon on a free transfer from Psg, young defender Mathis de leigt on an agreed sum from Ajax.

This means that Juventus will be a full power house. From goalkeeping :Scezny and Buffon, Defense with: Bonnucci, De light, Chielini, Sandro,Cancelo,Caceres, etc .,midfield with:Rabiot,Ramsey,Pjanic,,can, Bentacour, Matuidi, Kedhira etc. and forwards with: Roanldo, Dybala, Kean, Benardeschi,Mandzukic,Cuadrado and others.

This squad proves to be a real contender for the champions league title and if possible win a treble. This is because of the depth in squad that they posses and with the arrival of Mauricio Sarri as coach after the departure of Unai Emry, he can use the squad effectively to achieve everything.

Kenya qualified for the Afcon 2019 competition for the first time in 15 years. Everybody had high hopes and very optimistic that our national team will perform better that the previous episodes i. e qualifying into the knockout stages even though we we grouped with much better sides of Algeria and Senegal.

Things took a bitter twist after the first game with Kenya losing their first game against Algeria. People were quick to criticize the players that were involved and the style of play used including our best players who play professional football abroad.

That brings me back to the standards of football in Kenya which is not improving at all. Its deteriorating at a faster rate. The 2018-2019 season saw various stadia not used because they were not up to Fifa standards. Which means there is a lack of stadia for even the clubs that play in the top league in Kenya which is shameful.

Moving on to the payment of players, coaches and referees. Some of the clubs in the Kenyan premier league were unable to pay players salaries for a period of more than Five months. This can cause demoralisation to the players and the club as a whole. Other upcoming players who are talented won’t be interested in joining those clubs. Players need to be motivated for them to perform better that is by paying their salaries, allowances and bonuses on time.

Scouting in Kenya is very poor. Am not even sure if it ever happens and if it does its never just. I’ve seen several talented players outside the league who play better than those even playing in the league. This means that corruption is everywhere. Its a disease that is eating up the football in Kenya and the management needs to tackle that.

Establishment of soccer academies needs to be a priority for the governing body. Most of the clubs don’t even have a junior team. Football from a young age can produce better experienced football players. Talents of upcoming young talent need to be nurtured because by doing so there will be a possible future for Kenyan football.

After a rather disappointing match against Algeria where harambee stars lost 2-0, chances of qualification to the next round seems minimal.

In a group that consists of Algeria, Senegal and neighbouring country Tanzania, the only hopes of gaining any points is against Tanzania.

Only the top two teams qualify to the next stage and four(4) best third(3rd) placed teams from each group. With Algeria and Senegal proving too much for the other East African teams(Kenya and Tanzania) respectively with a scoreline of 2-0 on both teams, now hope lies on the remaining two fixtures for them to salvage at least maximum points in order to advance.
